Even during the best of times, the holidays can be trying for many of us. It’s easy to let ourselves be overwhelmed with preparations for get-togethers with family and friends, or perhaps it’s memories of holidays past and loved ones who are no longer with us. But in between thawing the turkey or going through the security check at the airport, what if we take ten minutes to reset our thoughts and emotions and find a respite of calm?

In a recent Ageless Style interview with Jennifer Denton, we talked about her favorite skincare products. Many of them contain hyaluronic acid, and we joked that hyaluronic acid seems to be in everything these days. I’m sometimes surprised it’s not in our breakfast cereal. But how many of us know what hyaluronic acid is and what it does for our skin?

If we’ve had a long-term sex partner and we’re not satisfied in bed, we might be intimidated to ask for what we want. It can be awkward… perhaps the right word is SCARY… especially if we haven’t had a regular dialogue about what makes us feel good. Because the male ego is linked so closely to their little brain, we may be afraid of bringing it up for fear our partner will think we’ve been faking it all this time. Or maybe they’ll interpret it as they’re not a good lover.
Continue ReadingWhile both of these may be true, it may also be that we’ve never told them what we like or shown them how to do it.
This month my friend, Cindy Hattersley and I are each doing another Ageless Style interview. You’ll find the link to Cindy’s blog at the end of my post.
If you’re a regular reader of Brenda’s Blog, most of the photographs you’ve seen of me were taken by Jennifer Denton. Jennifer is one of the country’s top portrait and brand photographers working today. Together, we’ve traveled from one end of the country to the other while I’ve interviewed a host of amazing women, and Jennifer has photographed them all. And in the process, we’ve had a blast.

Today I’m joining four blogger friends to talk about the Best Fall Accessories for Women Over 50. Links to their websites are at the bottom of this post, so make sure you stop by and see what they’re featuring.
Continue ReadingIsn’t it interesting to think about how much we’ve changed over the years? Not just the ways we’ve matured and how we see ourselves, but how we dress.
For the last three weeks, I’ve been on a relentless hunt for a foundation that matches my skin tone and a concealer that doesn’t make me look like I have white circles under my eyes, but so far, no luck. This morning I applied my latest purchase… Could you hear my screams from where you are? I’m frustrated because I’m partly to blame for what’s become a long, futile makeup odyssey.
Continue ReadingI shouldn’t be surprised because I’ve violated all of my longstanding rules of thumb about buying makeup.
Six of the eight places on my April in Tuscany, an “Invitation to the Rest of Your Life” trip are sold, and I can’t wait to meet the women who are coming with me. They’re from all over the US and Canada: big cities and small towns, East Coast, West Coast, and the last house at the end of a country road. I’ve wanted to get to know all of you and spend time together, and now it’s happening, but this isn’t just any old trip to Italy.

With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the world has lost one of the few remaining members of the “Greatest Generation,” as journalist Tom Brokaw called them. People who were born between 1900 through the 1920s, who lived through the Great Depression, and many who fought during World War II. They were a generation that understood sacrifice and honor; their word was their bond, and they were as interested in the wellbeing of others as much, and sometimes more than their own.
Continue ReadingQueen Elizabeth II was a member of this generation, and she had a big hand in shaping our world.
This coming April 21st – April 28th, 2023, I’ve planned a special trip to Tuscany, and I hope you’ll come with me. This adventure will be more than a shopping, sightseeing, and supping trip, although yes, we will laugh and shop and eat, but we’ll also make new friends with women who will grow to feel like sisters. More importantly, we will inspire one another to discover the woman we want to become. This is my invitation for you to come with me.
