I love the start of a new year.  Living up north, it’s usually cold and puts me in the mood to nest. Once all of the Christmas decorations are put away, it’s time to assess my home and see what needs organizing.

First and foremost, it’s usually my clothes closet that needs immediate attention. It’s a great time to purge clothes, shoes and purses that are worn out or no longer in style. It’s also a great time to assess what I need for the coming year.

This week Frank Sinatra would have turned 100! His music lives on through many generations of fans, including me. I love music, but there are not many singers that I can quickly recognize their music by title only like Frank’s songs.

On a recent trip to NYC, I enjoyed touring a condo project that my cousin is marketing. These gorgeous condos overlooked Central Park and were beautifully decorated!

We especially fell in love with one of them. The designer created a lacquered accent wall in the most gorgeous teal color. The wall looked like teal glass and was a showstopper! The rest of the room was decorated in beautiful neutral beiges and creams. Simply stunning!

We had our first hard frost of the season on Saturday and there was a chill in the air all day. When the temperature drops, there is nothing better than coming home to a warm bowl of soup for dinner. Add some crusty bread, a great glass of wine and it’s the perfect fall dinner for me. I don’t need any other sides or dessert.

I wanted to share four of my family’s favorite soup recipes. They are easy to make and always receive rave reviews. The full recipes are available on my blog by following the links below.

I recently went to a Parade of Homes. I was disappointed to see that many builders have given up on including dining rooms in their model homes. Yes, they have larger kitchens with casual eating areas, however, the dining tables in the kitchens are not large enough to host dinner parties. In fact, most could only seat a family of four to six.

I’m all for dining rooms being less formal than our parents dining rooms. I never wanted the formal table with the matching hutch. Growing up it was an ordeal to put heavy table pads on my mom’s dining room table and then a tablecloth that was a bear to iron. Continue Reading
