Five Tips to Great Looking Legs

While youthful legs have a natural sheen to them, I don’t know about you, but “maintenance” is more difficult for me than it used to be. I work hard at keeping my legs toned, but no matter what I do, little half moons have developed above my knees. Little half moons… Who am I kidding? They’re wrinkles caused by gravity. The trainers at my gym call them teardrops, which is apropos since they make me want to cry in frustration. Instead of giving in, I’ve embarked on a routine to make my legs the best they can be. Here are five tips to great looking legs.

LEGS THAT AREN’T MAINTAINED ARE DEAD GIVEAWAYS TO A WOMAN’S AGE.

1.

EXFOLIATE DAILY

Exfoliate legs and feet on a daily basis with a vitamin-rich body scrub. I find scrubs are far preferable to harsh loofah pads. Removing dead skin improves circulation and promotes the formation of new cells, which enhances the appearance of your skin.

2.

SHAVE REGULARLY

Shave on a regular basis, but don’t use cheap disposable razors made for women. Use a good razor, like the ones men use on their face, and change the blades often. Use shaving cream, or lots of soap, and go slow to avoid nicks and cuts.

3.

APPLY A SELF TANNER

My favorite is Clarins Lait Auto-Bronzant, SPF 6 Self Tanning Milk. The trick to getting even coverage is exfoliation before, followed by a moisturizer like Amlactin Alpha-Hydroxy Therapy Moisturizing Body Lotion while your legs are still damp. Immediately apply the self tanner in even strokes in one direction, careful to get the tops of your feet, around ankles, behind your knees and up to your panty line. Let legs air dry while you finish your morning routine. Wash the self tanner off your hands and nails.

4.

TALK TO A DERMATOLOGIST

Talk with a dermatologist about minimally invasive procedures like laser treatments for spider and varicose veins.

5.

EXERCISE REGULARLY

Perhaps the most important thing to having great looking legs is a regular exercise program. Squats, lunges, walking, the elliptical and the stair stepper are all ways to build the muscles in your legs. Even if you have velvety skin, it looks better when draped over toned calves and thighs.

I like the tips. I wish I could believe in self-tanners, but I haven’t like them in the past. Perhaps I should try the Clarins. I admit to sun use, which has of course resulted in moles. It is true what they say however, the legs are the last to go.

      Anita,
I’d forgotten that saying. LOL! I’ve tried several self-tanners over the years. They’re either streaky and/or turn my legs orange. Striped, orange legs I don’t need. I’d rather wear pantyhose. I do like Clarins. If you’re careful to follow these five tips, it works well.

      Hi Leisa,
I want to see IRIS. She’s a hoot, isn’t she? I wrote a blog two weeks ago about “Summer Entertainment Picks,” and IRIS was one of them.

Solid tips. I don’t do self-tanning, but I do hit the booth for a quality blast every now and then. And exercise is everything!

EXERCISE IS EVERYTHING! Truer words were never spoken! It makes all the difference in how I look and how I feel. Great reminder! Thank you!
